Project Overview
This project was originally introduced as a challenge to design an e-commerce app for a niche product.
Instead of creating a typical shopping experience, our team decided to build a complete ecosystem — an app that not only sells products but also builds an emotional connection between people and nature.
We chose bonsai trees as our product focus — a perfect representation of patience, artistry, and cultural depth.
Skills developed : Design System, Prototyping, Micro-interactions, Usability testing
Slogan
Adopt a Soul, Not a Plant.
User Story

As someone without a green thumb, I want to have an easy-to-care-for plant so that I can build a lasting and healthy relationship with plants.
Design Principles
Human
We are not selling plants, we help people welcome a living being in their lives. A name, a history, a personality, with it’s very own needs. The experience shall feel like meeting someone new, not buying an object.
Minimalism
The physical experience of owning and caring for a Bonsai shall be reflected in the digital experience: mindfulness and serenity are at the core. The app and the branding evoke calm, clarity, and intentionality.
Uniqueness
A bonsai is not a moment— it’s a lifelong companion. Each tree has a name, a story and is unique. It cannot be replaced: the brand should reinforce a sense of legacy and ritual.
User Flow

Opportunity: plants as living being, for long lasting relationship

Key Features
Adopt Your Bonsai — Choose from a curated selection, each with its own name, history, and story.
AI-Powered Care Assistant — Provides personalized guidance: when to water, prune, or repot your bonsai.
Smart Reminders — Automatically notifies users about upcoming care tasks.
My Garden — A personal space where users can track their bonsai’s growth and connect emotionally with their plants.
Cultural Insights — Learn the meaning behind different bonsai species and the philosophy they represent.
Kinsei Bonsai merges e-commerce with mindful interaction and intelligent care. Users can explore a curated collection of bonsai trees, learn about their origins, and choose one that resonates with their personality. Once adopted, the app continues to guide the user through every step of care — making the experience ongoing and meaningful.
Outcome
The result is an e-commerce concept that feels more like a digital sanctuary than a marketplace — a space where users discover beauty, learn patience, and find connection in the quiet art of bonsai.
